SDM rolls out ward committees’ empowerment programme

MOGORWANE – In a move focused on capacitating and empowering ward committee members to better execute their tasks at local community level, Sekhukhune District Municipality convened a support programme for the cohort at Boiketlong Lodge in Mogorwane Village outside Jane Furse on Tuesday, 25 June.

Lemson Moropjane, SDM spokesperson, said through the programme, initiated alongside the provincial Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA), SDM Council Speaker, Kgwediebotse Chego, together with local councils’ speakers from all the four municipalities under the district, also presented certificates to the secretaries of the committees, recognizing their dedication and hard work.

The secretaries engaged in a training session as part of a broader effort to enhance their effectiveness in serving their communities, focusing on eight modules such as report writing, community based planning and communications.

“Meanwhile, the department of COGHSTA has committed to organizing another training session during the current financial year, aiming to continuously support and develop the skills of ward committee members,” informed Moropjane.

SDM Executive Mayor, Minah Bahula praised the initiative and highlighted the importance of such programmes in strengthening local governance and community engagement.
