Gatsheni hosts successful debate competition for local schools

Gatsheni Lifeway Hope Organization is investing in education. This organisation in partnership with the Limpopo Department of education held its inaugural debate competition for local schools in Fetakgomo Tubatse on May 17. The competition included five schools from the Ngwaabe Circuit. The participants were Maelebe, Shopiane, Legapane, Ngwanatheko and Kgoboko primary schools.
Hosted at Kgoboko, the objective of this debate was to build confidence, promote public speaking and encourage learners to do research on certain topics. The topic for the day was
“How does loadshedding affect our education system?”
Shopiane pupils excelled with public speaking and were confident in their presentations. The school was chosen as the best for the day. They were honoured with a trophy and gold medals. Other participating schools took home educational goodies, stationery and medals for being part of the debate.
One of the retired educators Mam Mahlase was part of the judging panel, she also motivated the learners and urged them to study hard. “We learn everyday, and learners should use all tools to educate themselves, and social media shouldn’t distract them .”
Speaking after the event, organiser and director of Gatsheni Lifeway Hope Organisation Pastor Themba Ndlovi said, ” It’s our passion to impact and build learners and I pray that God would grant me strength and patience. We thank our sponsors; Zizwe, Pick n Pay Steelpoort, EDG Steelpoort, Chesa nyama Steelpoort, Panarottis , All health pharmacy and our partners; Department of education and Feed the child org, the event wouldn’t be a success without them.”
Ndlovu said they are planning to have more of these competitions to improve education in Steelpoort and neighbouring communities
