Manhunt launched following rape of minor girl

GA-MADISENG – The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Tubatse have launched a manhunt for an unknown male suspect following a rape of a 13 year-old girl on Saturday, 25 May at Ga-Madiseng Village outside Burgersfort at about 19:00.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, said according to a report, the mother of the victim received a phone call from her sister to inform her that her daughter had been raped at the village.

Ledwaba explained that the mother allegedly drove to her sister’s place at Madiseng Village and upon arrival, the sister told her that her daughter was invited to attend a friend’s birthday party at a vicinity next to a local church.

“Later on, the victim was reportedly seen leaving the party with an unknown male. The aunt of the victim attempted to call her several times but her cellphone was switched off. A search for the victim by her aunt and relatives ensued until they arrived at a certain homestead and knocked on the door. The suspect opened the door and was asked on the whereabouts of the 13 year-old girl. He told them that he never saw the victim and they forced entry to gain access to the house. They found the 13 year-old girl naked on top of a bed,” elaborated Ledwaba.

He further said that the victim allegedly told her aunt that she was raped by the unknown male suspect who fled the scene on foot. The incident was reported to the police and a case of rape was opened.

A manhunt for the suspect is currently underway and anyone with information that can assist with investigations is requested to contact Investigating Officer, Sergeant Shirley Lekubu on 071 355 0571, the crime stop number 08600 10111, the nearest police station or use the MySAPSAPP.
