Executive Mayor Bahula continues to address water challenges in Moutse

The Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM), Cllr Minah Bahula, continues to address water challenges with yet another borehole project handed-over at Phucukani Village in Dennilton, Moutse area.

The newly drilled water borehole was handed-over to the community of Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality (EMLM) Ward 6 on Wednesday 1 May as part of the executive mayor’s significant step towards alleviating water scarcity in the district municipality.

Two months ago, Bahula handed-over two completed communal water boreholes to communities of Moteti Village in the Moutse area.

The project was delivered to Moteti Villagers as a significant boost to alleviate water shortage challenges faced by the communities of EMLM, specifically in Wards 01 and 02 respectively, who were previously getting drinking water from the nearest rivers and wells.

According to the district municipality, the borehole project, which was handed-over at Phucukani, was initiated by the executive mayor and completed within a span of three weeks, poised to bring relief to the surrounding communities and a local Zulu Congregation Church.

Lemson Moropjane, SDM Spokesperson, said the project is a vital component of the municipality’s efforts to partially address the persistent water woes plaguing the Sekhukhune District Municipality.

“With the implementation of the borehole project programme, the municipality aims to maximize its own water generation capacity,” he said.

Moropjane said the installation of the borehole represents just one of the many interim measures being introduced by the district municipality under the executive mayor’s leadership, to tackle the pressing water challenges faced by residents.

Meanwhile, Executive Mayor Bahula urged communities to protect water borehole properties around the district from theft and vandalism.

Communities such as Phucukani, Malaeneng, Taereng and 5 Morgan will benefit from the developmental initiative of the executive mayor’s borehole project.

Furthermore, during her Integrated Development Plan (IDP) consultation, held recently at Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) offices in Jane Furse recently, Bahula said the district municipality has appointed term contractors to commence with the construction work of boreholes projects in over 80 traditional leaders in the district.

She said they are hopeful that the programme would have been concluded by June this year, providing interim relief while also exploring options to refurbish existing boreholes in villages to enhance water service provision.
