Foreign national nabbed for unlawful possession of live ammunition

GA-KGWETE – Police in Limpopo have arrested a 32 year-old man for unlawful possession of live ammunition at Ga-Kgwete Village outside Burgersfort on Sunday, 14 April.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, said it was reported that members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Tactical Response Team, Public Order Police, National Intervention Unit and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) operationalised intelligence information about a possible syndicate of foreign nationals who are believed to be smuggling counterfeit goods and distributing them amongst their fellow foreign nationals for their tuck-shops.

Ledwaba informed that late that day at about 19:50, the team caught the 32 year-old suspect, in possession of 38 live 9mm ammunition without a permit and it was also established that he was in the country illegally.

In a separate incident, six foreign nationals were arrested for contravention of the Immigration Act during a disruptive operation Vala Umgodi in the early hours of Sunday, 14 April around the Mecklenburg policing area,” revealed Ledwaba.
