Segweka and Sons Funeral services donates to needy pupils
MABOCHA
Having to walk to school in torn school shoes or barefoot is a headache for every learner, especially during winter when there is frost most mornings.
This is now a thing of the past for several learners of Thabane Primary School in Mabocha, thanks to Segweka and Sons Funeral Services, which donated 60 pairs of new school shoes to the learners on February 8. The ceremony was attended by the educators, the school management team and the company’s management.
Recently, members of the funeral services paid the school a visit to check with the educators what number of learners were most in need of new school shoes, and what their sizes were.
Representing the donors, Zoleka Memela said the donation forms part of the funeral parlour’s corporate social investment programme. “Segweka and Sons Funeral Services is not only there to do business in the communities, but to also plough back into society. Every learner deserves to go to school wearing a proper school uniform, regardless of his or her family background,” said Memela.
“These donations do not serve as a marketing tool. It is about empowering the future leaders of our country. Our aim is to see all the learners perform better and achieve decent results, regardless of their family experiences. We want them to attend school with clean and well-fitted school shoes, to help them gain more self-confidence.”
Thabane Primary School’s principal, Oscar Seroka, said they are most thankful for the donation, as it came at an opportune time. “We appreciate the sponsorship from Segweka, since our school has several children from disadvantaged families, and they do need this type of donation to help empower them emotionally and in their academic work. God bless this company and empower the parlour to continue to bless others. These learners will become responsible leaders in the future and come back to teach others the spirit of ubuntu.”
