The Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) 2nd Ordinary Council meeting, held recently at the municipal offices in Burgersfort, has resolved on passing a number of far-reaching resolutions.
Thabiso Mokoena, FTLM Spokesperson, said among the resolutions, focusing mainly on re-distribution of land in terms of the municipality’s spatial rationale, the council has approved the transfer of ownership to over 4000 households at Praktiseer portions 7, 8, 23, 24 ,25 ,28 ,31 ,32 and 33 in the form of issuance of title deeds.
“This is ground-breaking because the occupants will have financial security over their properties. The municipality will generate revenue of over R200 million through the selling of the occupied sites over an agreed period. Those who are classified as indigents will get the stands for free and will be assisted with transfer costs,” he said.
Mokoena said the local municipality has also agreed to the approval of R100 million capital infrastructure and land acquisition medium term facility loan from Standard Bank, which will be used for acquisition of strategic land for future developments.
“Part of the loan will be used for the roll out of infrastructural projects such as roads, access bridges and related activities. This will generate once revenue of over R500 million and will stimulate local economy in a form of sale of electricity and property rates. This will also create value chain opportunities,” he explained.
Furthermore, in terms of social and labor plan, Mokoena stated that the municipality has for the first-time, approved a report on the performance of the social and labor plans from the mines operating in the jurisdiction of the municipality.
“This will give a clear picture in terms of the impact of the SLP projects and its integration in the municipal planning. The focus will strategically promote partnership through key economic development projects like the provision of electricity, roads, water, social amenities like libraries and sports facilities. The total commitment made by the mines to date on SLP`s is over R500 million,” explained Mokoena.
He indicated that the municipal council has approved the extension of the solar vision contract to continue assisting indigent communities and other households with solar powered energy, a project currently benefiting over 2000 households.
“Provision of solar powered energy to the indigent is part of the municipal promotion of green economy and alternative source of energy,” he said.
According to Mokoena, in the first quarter performance, the municipality has recorded 88% performance on the targets set for the 2023/24 financial year first quarter as compared to 54% that was achieved in the same period in 2022/23 financial year.
“The performance has set a bar for the coming quarters to be over 90% and the target is to attain 100%. This is part of the commitment made to improve organizational performance and to expedite the provision of services to the community,” he said.
