MEC Ramathuba conducts 24 hour activation at Sekhukhune clinics
Malebitsa/Mohlaletsi
MEC for Health Department in Limpopo, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, has activated 24-hour services at Vlakplaats Clinic in Malebitsa Village outside Marble Hall, Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality (EPMLM) and Mohlaletsi Clinic in Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM).
According to the department, the activation is part of bringing primary health care services closer to the people.
During the activation, MEC Ramathuba was accompanied by then Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM), Cllr Maleke Mokganyetji.
In her commitment to enhancing healthcare access, Ramathuba pledged during the 2023/2024 budget speech to make a significant number of clinics in the province available 24/7.
She said the initiative aims to meet the growing demand for round-the-clock medical services, particularly in rural areas where patients often face long journeys to access care.
“This marks a significant milestone in our healthcare system, ensuring greater accessibility to medical assistance, relieving pressure on emergency rooms, ensuring continuous care, and providing peace of mind to patients and their families who will now have uninterrupted access to healthcare,” stated MEC Ramathuba.
However, Ramathuba said it is essential for communities to protect these vital resources against any criminal activities and vandalism.
The MEC emphasized concerns about incidents where staff members and security personnel have been attacked during their duty at clinics, which negatively impacts their morale and service to the community.
MEC Ramathuba encouraged traditional leaders and the community to support and safeguard these clinics as they serve their vital function in providing healthcare services.
