Ward committee members urged to bolster service delivery efforts
MARBLE HALL – The Municipal Manager of Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality, Mogobadi Moropa implored the ward committee members in attendance during the municipality’s ward committee conference which was held at the Karibu Lodge in the Greater Tzaneen Local Municipality from 18-20 October to be the eyes and ears of the institution.
Mogabadi made the emphasis as he gave the purpose of the conference and further called on the delegates to take the conference’s resolves that will be a yardstick to measure their performance on service delivery.
The municipal manager alluded that the primary objective of the two-day conference was to empower, educate and inform the members to know and understand their roles and functions as enshrined in the Ward Committee Resource book.
Rebecca Lentsoane, Council Speaker, described the ward committee members as the champions of service delivery who should work together to better the lives of the people.
Lentsoane encouraged the cohort to strive to complement one another and put more efforts to ensure that they communicate the same message to their communities, indicating that synergy is very vital in every organization.
Sector departments such as the Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, the Independent Electoral Commission, Eskom and Social Development gave presentations and clarified questions raised by the delegates during the conference.
Also in attendance were councilors, officials from other municipalities and government departments. The conference had five commissions that resolved on key service delivery issues within the municipality’s jurisdiction.
