It was a day filled with jubilation, ululation, song and dance when top achieving 2025 matriculants in Sekhukhune East were rewarded for their hard work.
On January 23, the top performing matriculants enjoyed a luncheon with the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM)’s mayor Eddie Maila.
The event was held at Thaba Moshate Hotel Casino and Convention Resort, attendees included the Sekhukhune East director JF Malatjie, circuit managers, principals, parents and FTLM councillors.
As part of the event, fourteen top achievers from the municipality received laptops, certificates of appreciation and stationery vouchers.
Speaking at the event, Maila acknowledged and applauded all the schools in the FTLM that achieved 100% .
He commended the Class of 2025 for contributing to Limpopo Province’s overall matric pass rate of 86.15%, with Sekhukhune East District achieving 86.7%, earning recognition as the most improved district in the province for the second consecutive year.
The Mayor described the achievement as a milestone that reflects sustained improvement and a decisive shift away from the district’s historical challenges in matric performance.
He further emphasised that Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality will intensify engagement with education circuits within its jurisdiction, with the objective of starting academic support and preparations earlier in the year, in order to proactively address challenges before matric examinations.
Maila also congratulated Bogwasha Circuit for being recognised as the most improved circuit in Limpopo Province, commending circuit managers, principals, educators, parents, and learners for their collective efforts in improving academic outcomes.
“The municipality will once again support our top achievers; we cannot congratulate them today and thereafter neglect them.”
Maila called for sustained excellence and a stronger focus on the quality of passes, particularly in key gateway subjects such as Mathematics, Physical Science, Technical Science, and Accounting.
Particular recognition was given to Mathake Thabo of Leolo Technical High School, the National Overall Performer in Technical Science, and Moime Jasean of Mogale wa Bagale Technical High School, the top learner in Limpopo Province in Engineering and Graphic Design.
Mayor Maila reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to education, highlighting the importance of basic service delivery, including roads and electrification, as key enablers of teaching and learning.
He further noted that since 2021, the Office of the Mayor has donated school uniforms to more than 400 primary school learners, while the Mayoral Bursary Fund has supported over 80 deserving learners with full bursaries.
The Mayoral Top Achievers Lunch forms part of the municipality’s broader commitment to promoting a culture of excellence and investing in the future of young people.
