Police crackdown on crime yield positive results
GA-MASEMOLA/GA-MOTODI – The Police in Limpopo have made significant strides in combating string of crimes committed in the Sekhukhune District, with the arrest of three suspects wanted for six cases of house robbery and one of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, the suspects, all foreign nationals aged 18, 19, and 34, were arrested by members attached to the Nebo-Jane Furse Tracking Team and Sekhukhune Flying Squad on Thursday 18 December 2025.
“The arrests were made in Gauteng Province, specifically in Hammanskraal and Soshanguve, after police received information about the suspects’ whereabouts,” said Ledwaba.
He added that most of the cases were committed at Ga-Masemola policing area in Jane Furse.
“One of the suspects, 19-year-old Courage Chigwadere, appeared in Nebo Magistrate court on Thursday 18 December 2025, and was remanded in custody. The other two suspects were later arrested and were found in possession of properties believed to have been stolen during early November 2025, including 15 cellphones, a firearm, and 17 live rounds of ammunition,” explained Ledwaba.
He said the suspects are expected to appear before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court soon facing charges of house robberies and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Meanwhile, the police in Tubatse have arrested a male suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, following an incident at a liquor outlet in Ga-Motodi Village on Sunday 21 December 2025.
“The arrest was effected at about 17:30 by members of the Tubatse Detective Unit, attached to the Tubatse Tracing Team, while conducting tracing and investigation duties. The suspect was arrested after police received information from intelligence about an individual displaying a firearm in front of patrons at a liquor restaurant. The suspect led police to his vehicle, where he removed a pistol, and failed to produce a licence to possess the firearm,” Ledwaba informed.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Limpopo, has strongly condemned acts of violence, intimidation, and the illegal possession of firearms at taverns and liquor outlets, stressing that these establishments should not become breeding grounds for criminal activity.
Hadebe stressed that law enforcement will continue to intensify operations aimed at preventing tavern-related attacks and ensuring the safety of community members, especially during festive season.
