Thirteen suspects linked to a disability grant scam appeared in the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on November 21.
Lucky Kgatla (57), Gloria Moukangwe (44), Lawrence Mokganyetsi (42), Cathrine Mohlala (54), Sophy Tala (59), Selina Motshana (51), Gertrude Mohlala (59), Reuben Sekwadi (60), Petros Mathunyane (48), Lancy Mohlala (43), Jane Mampa (42), DorahMotshana (48), and Solomon Mathunyane (61) face charges of corruption and contravention of the Social Grant Act related to fraudulent disability grant applications.
All the accused were released on R1 000 bail and the case was postponed to February 9, 2026 for further investigation.
“According to information received, SASSA officials in Hlogotlou processed fraudulent disability grant applications by these individuals, who used falsified medical documents. All 13 fraudulent applications were allegedly certified by a single doctor, which raised suspicions. When approached, the doctor denied issuing the medical reports and confirmed that she had never examined the individuals in question,” said the Limpopo SAPS spokesman, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
He said investigations revealed that none of the supposed beneficiaries qualified for disability grants as they were healthy and had never been examined by the doctor whose name appeared on the documents.
A key suspect was identified as the individual who allegedly recruited the applicants and arranged for them to receive the grants. All beneficiaries reportedly began receiving payments between late 2021 and 2023, before the fraud was uncovered.
