Blue Birds win SADA tournament
GA MAKOFANE
In order to keep the youth busy and to encourage them to focus on sporting activities, the Socialist Agenda of Dispossessed Africans (SADA) organised a top 4 soccer tournament at Ga-Makofane Village. The tournament was held at Blue Birds Sports Grounds on September 6.
Titled the Cllr Sparkler Makofane Tourney, this football spectacle was spearheaded by a local councillor at Fetakgomo Tubatse Municipality, Sparkler Makofane.
Teams from the host community of Ga-Makofane and the neighbouring village of Sekopung competed in the games.
The four participants were the Blue Birds, Golden, Royal and Sedibeng football clubs.
The final match, which pitted Blue Birds against Golden, was an entertaining affair, buoyed by the home crowd. Blue Birds scored a 2-1 victory.
The top leadership of the party and its supporters attended the matches.
Blue Birds received a brand-new soccer kit, a soccer ball and R2 000 prize money. The runners-up, Golden, went home with R1 000 and a soccer ball. Sedibeng and Royal football clubs were also given soccer balls for participating in the tourney.
Speaking after the handover of the prizes, Lethabile Kgwedi from SADA highlighted that sports unites the youth. “This was a perfect platform for our youth to showcase their talents. We thank all the four participating teams and are planning to host a bigger tournament for communities in Ga- Makofane and surroundings in the upcoming moths.”
