Executive Mayor Bahula visits families of GBV victims in Sekhukhune
MAMPHOGO/MOCHADI – The Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality, Cllr Minah Bahula, paid condolence visits to the families of two recent gender-based violence (GBV) victims on Thursday 21 August 2025. According to the municipality, the visits were aimed at expressing solidarity with the families and condemning the tragic incidents.
The first visit was to the family of 23-year-old Boshelo Moimane, who was allegedly stabbed to death by her estranged 31-year-old boyfriend in Mamphogo Village.
The tragic incident happened at the RDP Section of Leeuwfontein outside Marble Hall. The suspect has been arrested and will appear before court in relation to the brutal murder. The family confirmed that Boshelo was four months pregnant when she died.
The second visit was to the family of a 79-year-old woman who was allegedly murdered by her 38-year-old son in Mochadi Village outside Jane Furse.
During the visits, Mayor Bahula conveyed her heartfelt condolences to both bereaved families and community, expressing deep sorrow over the tragic loss.
She strongly condemned the GBV acts, highlighting the painful reality that such violence continues during Women’s Month, a time meant to uplift and honour the resilience in South Africa.
“This is not just a family tragedy, it is a community wound. We must stand together to fight the scourge of GBV and restore the dignity and safety of our communities. We will work with law enforcement, social development partners, and civil society to support victims and prevent future occurrences through awareness, education, and coordinated response efforts,” she said.
The Mayor reiterated the municipality’s commitment to working with law enforcement, social development partners, and civil society to support victims and prevent future occurrences.
“We will continue to work together to raise awareness, provide education, and respond to GBV incidents in a coordinated manner,” she said.
Earlier in the day, Bahula also paid her respects to the family of the late struggle veteran, Shadrack Moetanalo Phetedi (88), honouring his lifelong contribution to the freedom and development of the district and the nation.
