MEC Rachoene announces plans for Leolo Access Road Project
JANE FURSE
The first of 21 contractors lined up for various construction of roads in Limpopo Province, was announced by MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure in the province, Ernest Rachoene.
Racheone made the announcement at the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) Offices in Jane Furse on Monday 4 August 2025, as part of implementing his 2025/2026 Budget Speech procurement.
During the announcement, Rachoene handed-over TCT Civils and Construction as the contractor responsible for upgrading the Leolo Access Road at Leolo Village outside Jane Furse.
The project, which involves upgrading D4230 Road from gravel to tar, is a much-needed improvement to the area’s infrastructure.
The announcement was met with much elation from the community, who have been waiting for improvements to their access road for a long time.
The upgrade is expected to improve the quality of life for residents, facilitate economic growth, and enhance the overall infrastructure of the area.
Rachoene emphasized that the development is a demonstration of the seventh administration’s determination to serve communities.
The MEC urged communities to work jointly with the department to ensure that construction projects are completed without disruptions.
“The opportunity that government has brought to this community is huge, especially looking at the need for upgrades across the province, and therefore, the project must not fail,” he said.
He warned that if disruptions occur, the projects may be taken elsewhere, emphasizing the importance of collaboration.
The MEC called for the need for the contractor to work within cost and ensure quality and integrity in the operations.
Rachoene said TCT Civils and Construction will only be responsible for phase 1 of the project, which is a 5km stretch.
The upgrade will be done in phases, with the community eagerly awaiting the completion of the project.
The contractor hand-over announcement was made in the presence of MLM Mayor, Cllr Merah Mahlase, MLM Chief Whip, Cllr Mosedi Tamaga, members of local tribal authority and affected communities.
