EMLM holds First Ordinary Council Meeting

The Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality (EMLM) has on Wednesday 30 July 2025, convened its First Ordinary Council Meeting for the 2025/2026 Financial Year, chaired by the EMLM Speaker of Council, Cllr Junior Thethe.
The meeting, which was held at the municipal headquarters in Groblersdal, discussed key agenda items, including the filling of the vacancy for the Senior Manager of Executive Support and the debate on the recently held State of the Municipal Address (SOMA).
According to the municipality, the SOMA debate was a critical platform for evaluating service delivery, financial management, and overall governance at the municipal level.
During the debate, EMLM Mayor, Cllr David Tladi, welcomed the discussion as a milestone in strengthening democracy and improving service delivery.
Tladi also announced that the municipality has received R27 million in disaster grant funds to address the damage caused by heavy flooding.
He said the funding will be used to execute several projects, including the construction of storm-water control system, a 3.5 km long storm-water control on both the right and left sides of the 8.8km long Jerusalema/Motsephiri Road.
Tladi furthered announced that some of the funds will also be used for upgrading of a 1.2km long gravel road to paving and implement storm-water control at Moteti Village.
The mayor went on to say the funding will also be used for reconstruction of the culvert bridge at Kgobokwane Village and reconstruction of gabions on both the right and left sides at Marapong Village, which has already been completed.
He said the contractors for the projects have been appointed, with construction completion targeted for the end of December 2025.
Tladi emphasized that these initiatives are vital for enhancing the resilience of the municipality against future disasters and ensuring the safety and well-being of residents.
He expressed gratitude for the support received and reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to effective governance and community empowerment.
