Duo in court for car hijacking and  possession of unlicensed firearm

Two suspects, Thato Motau and Terrence Mongadi, appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, July 11, facing charges relating to a suspected hijacked vehicle and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Motau, who is charged with possession of a hijacked vehicle, was remanded in police custody. His case was postponed to Monday,
July 14, for further investigation and a possible bail application. Mongadi, was granted bail of R1 500. He faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
“On Saturday, July 5, members of the Tubatse tracing team acted on intelligence about suspicious vehicles parked in Ext 10, Burgersfort. Upon arrival, the suspects fled on foot, abandoning a white Volkswagen Polo with Limpopo registration plates,” said Limpopo SAPS spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba.
He confirmed that the vehicle had been reported hijacked in June 2025 in the Tubatse policing area.
Motau was arrested in
Ext 10 on Thursday, July 10, at around 11:00. Mongadi was later apprehended at a well-known tavern in Riba Cross for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The recovered vehicle and firearm were confiscated and form part of the ongoing investigation.
