Access road projects to benefit Ga- Mokgotho and Praktiseer communities
BURGERSFORT
“ In order to achieve our target of transforming our municipality into a city, we need to have decent roads.”
These were the words of Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM)’s mayor Eddie Maila when he introduced contractors to erect two access roads in Fetakgomo Tubatse last week.
On July 3, he handed over two contractors to erect an 8 kilometre access road at Praktiseer Shushumela.
He continued to introduce another two contractors for a 6 kilometre access road at Ga-Mokgotho village, (Ward 16) on July 4.
Speaking while in Praktiseer, Maila said his municipality has been working hard to transform access roads within Fetakgomo Tubatse.
“In recent months, we completed access roads at Ga- Manoke, Mareseleng, Ga Tebeila and other communities in the FTLM. The Magakala access road and bridge project is also complete and it’s in final stages. We are also still hard at work with the Maepa and Dresden access road projects.”
While introducing the contractors, Maila reminded them about their objective in the village.
“The municipality is expecting quality project that must be implemented within the stipulated time and contractors must ensure that the locals benefit in terms of employment and business opportunities through correct procedures.”
He warned contractors who were not respecting contractual agreements.
“Nowadays, when we appoint a contractor, we convene a meeting and introduce them to the community. We also outline the process to be followed in order for the project to fully finish.”
Maila also warned communities, who had a ‘tendency of disrupting municipal projects’.
“Gone are the days we will allow opportunists to stop service delivery projects in order to enrich themselves. I will guard this project day and night in order to see it complete. Community members must refrain from disrupting projects, as it affects the provision of basic services and the development of our settlements especially rural areas.”
Speaking at Ga- Mokgotho, Maila said the 6 kilometre road will ease pressure for motorists and pedestrians who had to traverse on a difficult terrain to reach homes and other areas.
“The new access road will improve accessibility to the village and shorten travel time to other areas. The road will enhance the economic potential of the area in terms of Agriculture and hospitality.”
When accepting the road on behalf of the community, Kgoshi Setlamorago Thobejane (Ngoato) of Mafefe Tribal Council applauded the FTLM for the construction of the new road at Ga-Mokgotho village as this will bring much relief and improve the living condition of the local residents.
“Road infrastructure is an enabler for economic growth and must be embraced by all. ”
He further committed that the community will support the project until its finality. Both the Praktiseer and Ga- Mokgotho projects will cost R140 million. They will be completed within a 12-month period.
