Golf development takes centre stage in Sekhukhune
GROBLERSDAL – The Sekhukhune Region is buzzing with excitement as Sekhukhune Golf Federation prepares to host a series of golf tournaments in the area and beyond, with the events scheduled to take place on Sunday 22 June 2025 in Groblersdal, proceeding to Soweto on Saturday 28 June 2025 and conclude in Pretoria on Monday 30 June 2025.
The Sekhukhune Golf Tour, as the tournament is known, is organized by Sekhukhune Golf Federation, a group of passionate golfers who are committed to promoting the sporting code in the region.
According to the federation, the sporting events aim to promote golf development programmes for Sekhukhune and celebrate the region’s heritage through tourism.
As part of the build-up to these events, Sekhukhune Golf Federation recently hosted two golf sessions for under-19 golfers in Monsterlus area at Nkandla Resort and Molapo Lifestyle and Park on Sunday 15 and Monday 16 June 2025.
The sessions were designed to promote the upcoming events and encourage young golfers to participate in the sport.
According to Lucky Malesoene, Captain of Sekhukhune Golf Federation, the primary purpose of the tournaments is to raise funds to sustain golf development programmes in the Sekhukhune Region.
“We believe that golf is a sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and sexes. Our goal is to promote the sport and create opportunities for young golfers to develop their skills and compete at a higher level,” he said.
Malesoene also emphasized the importance of community support for the events, urging the community to attend their events and show their support for golf development in the region.
“We also appeal to local businesses and government to partner with the federation and help us achieve our goals,” he said.
Although they are currently operating without official support from the Sekhukhune Golf Federation or the municipality through the sport confederation, they are determined to make a positive impact on the sport.
“We will continue to use the term ‘federation’ until we receive official support,” Malesoene explained.
“For now, we are focused on raising support through our golf tours and requesting backing from the community and businesses as they can contribute to the growth of the sporting code in Sekhukhune Region,” he said.
