Man convicted of rape on the run

DENNILTON – The Groblersdal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is seeking public assistance on the whereabouts of Themba Patrick “Stlhano” Mbokane wanted in connection with the rape of a 16 year-old girl in Dennilton on 27 December 2016.

According to the police, the 61 year-old Mbokane was arrested on 1 January 2017 and was granted bail after he made several court appearances.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, said Mbokane was found guilty by the Groblersdal Regional Court and sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment.

Ledwaba stated that afterwards, the accused lodged an appeal and was also granted bail, pending the finalisation of his appeal.

He informed that the appeal was successful and a warrant of his arrest was issued in 2023 but Mbokane has since been on the run to date.

Ledwaba added that a manhunt for Mbokane’s apprehension has been intensified and police are requesting anyone with information that can assist regarding his whereabouts to urgently contact Investigating Officer, Sergeant Pebetse Maile on 073 124 8821, the crime stop number 08600 10111, the nearest police station or use the MySAPSApp.
