Ga- Maja Liverpool wins RJ Shishongwe inaugural tournament

Ga-Maja Liverpool clinched the champions’ trophy at the inaugural RJ Shishongwe Foundation Soccer Tournament on May 18, beating Josy United 6-5 on penalties.
The two teams played to a 2-2 stalemate during the 90 minutes of play.
The top 8 soccer tournament was held at the Maeba Chiefs sports grounds at Podungwane, with teams from Ga-Maja, Lebowakgomo, Ga-Mphahlele, Ga-Chuene and Giyani participating.
The winning team took home a cash prize of R10 000, while the runners-up went home with R5 000. The third- and fourth-placed teams, Newcastle and Napoli, were awarded R2 500 each.
The top goal scorer, Chirbert Theledi (five goals) and best goalie, Victor Nkosi, both from Liverpool, were awarded trophies. The best player of the tournament was Josy United’s defender, Kamogelo Raseakela.
Speaking after the tournament, RJ Shishongwe’s founder Ronny Shishongwe said they will continue to host these tournaments all over Limpopo.
“The aim is to see our youth play for top Betway Premiership sides. We also want to keep the youth busy and ensure they don’t abuse alcohol and drugs. We urge sponsors to come on board and ensure these tournaments are big.”
According to the organisers, more than R40 000 was spent in preparation for the inaugural tournament.
RJ Shishongwe’s management congratulated all the winners. They confirmed that a date and venue for next tournament will be announced in due course.
Among the attendees were scouts from PSL sides; a councillor and the speaker of the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality’s council, Dumisa Madalane;ZCC St Engenas’ priests;and representatives from the Limpopo sports, arts and culture department.
