Mayor Maila encourages residents to seize IDP consultations’ opportunities
LEBOENG – Fetakgomo-Tubatse Local Municipality Mayor, Eddie Maila, has urged communities to refrain from embarking on unlawful protests and use platforms such as the Integrated Development Programme (IDP) public engagement sessions to register their concerns in order to get relevant information on service delivery.
Mayor Maila said although the municipality faces challenges of limited resources, efforts are made to deliver services like roads and electricity, funded through Conditional Grants and the municipality’s own revenue.
The mayor was speaking during the recent institution’s public participation programme on the draft 2025/2026 IDP and Budget in Leboeng.
The programme’s first roll out was on 7 March when the municipality engaged councillors and Community Development Workers.
It was further extended to accommodate traditional leaders and special focus groups. Its sessions are planned according to clusters within the municipality to allow residents to access them within their proximity.
In the local community hall in Leboeng, Maila recently presented the draft IDP to community members who were also granted an opportunity to raise their views and contribute meaningfully towards improved service delivery across all clusters.
“This is a session created to afford all community members an opportunity to suggest and give inputs as well as comments into the IDP as a tool to record all service delivery issues affecting communities,” stated Maila.
The municipality committed that the general public consultation would be extended to other clusters and called on residents to attend in their numbers to make their voices heard.
