Makhuduthamaga draft IDP and Budget expected for presentation this month
JANE FURSE – To discuss executive and legislative reports, as well as key matters of development and service delivery, Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) convened the third quarter Ordinary Council Meeting in Jane Furse at the end of last month.
The meeting noted the updated Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Budget process plan, according to which, the Executive Committee, led by Mayor Merah Mahlase, will present the draft IDP and Budget for the 2025/2026 to council this month, together with the incorporated public comments for final approval.
Thomas Mashabela, MLM spokesperson, said land development featured in the meeting to monitor the implementation of the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act (SPLUMA) and other land use management related statutory obligations.
Mashabela indicated that over 200 land development applications were received from 31 March, which are currently being reviewed.
He added, “In another council’s effort to improve monitoring of municipal-funded local economic development projects, the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) visited four projects in the third quarter, Tshabela Flowers, Bofanyana Youth Agriculture, Mabore Setabudi Cooperative and Charms Projects. The municipality is taking crucial actions towards improving the local economy through investing in and supporting LEDs and business initiatives.”
Mashabela highlighted that the Small, Medium and Micro Enterprise (SMME) support initiative provided financial assistance to one local business during the third quarter of 2024/2025. “The municipality acquired and handed over a brand new branding and printing machine, a 16E2 Titan Jet Printer ECO, to Lwale Upholstery (Pty) to expand its business,” stated Mashabela.
