SEZs provide Limpopo an array of economic opportunities
BURGERFORT/MUSINA – The Fetakgomo-Tubatse and Musina-Makhado Special Economic Zones (SEZs), together with industrial parks provide a need for international partnerships that can assist accelerate mineral beneficiation, industrialisation and infrastructure investment.
They are aimed at unlocking job opportunities and reducing poverty while fostering inclusive growth and economic transformation.
On Wednesday, Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba opened the Limpopo International Economic Investment Roundtable discussion to strengthen global trade and drive economic growth at the Ranch Hotel outside Polokwane.
Ramathuba said the roundtable is a call to action and not just a dialogue. “It is a platform to match our bold ambitions with serious international partners who share our vision of a prosperous, industrialised and globally competitive Limpopo,” stated Ramathuba.
Speaking during the roundtable, Ramathuba highlighted that the province’s rich agricultural landscape, combined with the strategic establishment of SEZs in Musina-Makhado and Fetakgomo-Tubatse, provides government with a golden opportunity to create the province’s own factories, industrialise and lessen dependency on other provinces and countries.
“This is an essential move towards creating sustainable jobs, uplifting our communities and fighting poverty,” said Ramathuba.
She added that to realise Limpopo’s vision, the Limpopo Economic Development Agency (LEDA) must lead the charge on how the province can navigate the terrain.
“Our focus should be on articulating the benefits that this investment will bring to our portfolio while advancing job creation in various sectors, including mining, agriculture and tourism,” remarked Ramathuba. The Limpopo International Economic Investment Roundtable is the first of its kind since 2018.
It brought together economic stakeholders and development partners to chart a new path for economic collaboration and growth with international partners.
