Makhuduthamaga holds Special Council Meeting

JANE FURSE – In move to regulate the rising local economic activities and plan new projects and programmes, Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) passed its draft Township Economy By-law, Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and budget for the 2025/2026 financial year during a special council meeting held on 31 March.

The Executive Committee, led by Mayor Merah Mahlase, tabled the 2025/2026 draft IDP and budget as well as budget-related policies during the gathering.

The action, according to the municipality, seeks to ensure adherence to the approved time schedule and Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) requirements. The draft IDP document is expected to be subjected to public review to solicit feedback.

Ronald Moganedi, Municipal Manager, informed the council that the institution will receive an additional R25 million in Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG).

The municipality won SALGA awards for MIG spending and effective financial management. The additional funds, according to the municipality, will be used to accelerate the implementation of ongoing MIG projects.

The meeting further noted that the municipality has reached the final step in the annual reporting process for the previous financial year, 2023/2024 in line with the provision of the MFMA.

The council resolved to table the draft Township Economy By-law for public comment from municipal stakeholders, dates of which will soon be published for public consultations.
