Multi-award winning Mabena set to release two books
DENNILTON
Vusi Mabena (32), a multi-award-winning self-published author from Kwangolovane Village in Dennilton, will be releasing two inspirational books in April 2025.
With his writing journey evolving over the years, Mabena released six books under his name and has won 6 awards within the national and international literature spaces.
The multi-talented Mabena, who is also an actor, musician and public speaker, is set to release his two additional books following his two-year break in writing.
“I have seen it worthy to take a break in literature so that I can focus on other projects. I just completed the long-waited music album and I have also diverted my focus working as a columnist on one of local newspapers in Gauteng,” he says.
After six years as a professional author, Mabena managed to sell over 10 000 copies of his six books which he released throughout the years.
“It was not an easy task because I was selling the books all by myself. But with the grace of the almighty God I managed to do it. I am happy to announce that all my books, including the ones that I am going to publish next month, will be available on digital online book stores. All thanks to Ekurhuleni Authors Forum for helping us self-published authors to get every information we need in this creativity industry. I was not going to make it this far if it was not for them,” he adds.
Mabena recounts his humble beginnings, dating back to 2014 when his desire and passion for writing started to burn out.
“I never thought one day I will be looking back and smile. I was just a motivational speaker and a poet at the time holding nothing tangible in my hands. It was not an easy journey at all but I was dreaming of being one of the recognized authors in South Africa and today I am living that dream,” recalls Mabena.
He advises other young people to not be deterred by their background situations or underestimate their small beginnings.
“You will make it as long as you work hard. Have a strong vision and don’t let people stop you from achieving your goals,” he says.
Mabena is currently auditioning for different television roles and hoping to use his writing skills as a script writer for popular South African television channels like Mzansi Magic, Moja Love and others.
