SDM sets goals at Loskop Strategic Planning Session
GROBLERSDAL
The Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM), Cllr Minah Bahula, said the district municipality is working on accelerating water provision to the communities.
Bahula said when delivering the opening address at the three-day Strategic Planning Session, held at Loskop Valley Forever Resort outside Groblersdal from Monday 24 to Wednesday 26 February 2024.
The session was held under the themed: “Striving Towards Sustainable Water Management”, with an aim to develop a clear roadmap for the next financial year, ensuring improved service delivery for Sekhukhune communities.
“The narrative in Sekhukhune District has changed for the better because our work is receiving the necessary attention from our communities. They are beginning to recognize the impact we are making, particularly in water and sanitation,” said the executive mayor.
In a major service delivery announcement, Bahula introduced the Sekhukhune District Satellite Offices in all four local municipalities. These offices are set to bring services closer to the people, ensuring better access and efficiency in addressing community needs. The Satellite offices will officially be launched soon.
As part of accelerating water infrastructure development, Executive Mayor Bahula has on Tuesday last week, also convened an emergency meeting with contractors working on water-related projects to assess progress.
“Progress must not only be reflected in expenditure but must also be visible on the ground,” she emphasized.
She indicated that a follow-up meeting has been scheduled for next week to review further developments.
The strategic planning session also took a solemn moment to honour fallen soldiers who lost their lives in the ongoing conflict in the Goma Region of the Democratic Republic of Congo, while on a peacekeeping mission sanctioned by the Southern African Development Community (SADC). South Africa has lost fourteen soldiers in this conflict, including two from Sekhukhune District who were laid to rest last weekend.
They are Lance Corporal Tseke Moffat Molapo from Moroke Village, Fetakgomo-Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) and Staff Sergeant Shwahlane Theophilius Seepe from Schoonoord, Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM). A moment of silence was observed in their memory.
