Burgersfort cop shot in Jane Furse.

Jane Furse police are investigating a case of armed robbery and attempted murder after an off-duty cop was wounded at Mashishing Village, Jane Furse policing area on Tuesday, 14 January 2024. “An off-duty Warrant Officer stationed at Burgersfort was parking his white Toyota Hilux bakkie outside Mashishing Village next to Library Gardens when a group of five unknown armed men approached him. They opened fire on his upper body, and the member came out of his vehicle in an attempt to defend himself and only to be shot again in the lower body and left unconscious,” said Limpopo SAPS spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
He said the suspects then fled the scene with his service pistol and two cellphones.
Ledwaba added that a passerby discovered him and managed to call the emergency medical personnel. He was then transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Two empty cartridges were found at the scene.
The suspects are still at large, and the police are appealing to the public to come forward with information that can assist with the arrest of the suspects to contact Detective Captain Fana Mkhwanazi on 082 319 9526, Crime Stop number 08600 10111 and share information on MySAPSApp.
Provincial commissioner of Limpopo in Limpopo , Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the incident and urged the community to come forward with information that can lead to the arrest of these armed robbery suspects.
Meanwhile, the commissioner has also mobilised maximum resources to track down the suspects and brought them to book to face the full might of law.
Police investigations are underway.
