MLM observes World Aids Day

GA-MAMPANE – Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) held a ceremony in commemoration of HIV/Aids victims and survivors in Ga-Mampane Village on 13 December in line with the observation of the World Aids Day.

Thomas Mashabela, MLM spokesperson, stated that the occasion intended to highlight government’s global HIV and Aids treatment programme as well as to appreciate the work and progress made by ambassadors and various organisations.

On behalf of Mayor Merah Mahlase, Executive Committee member and Head of Community Services, Peter Rankoe, addressed the event.

Rankoe reminded members of the community to quell deceitful information that HIV/Aids has gone away.

He encouraged the public to work together in raising awareness to combat the spread of HIV/Aids and prejudices, and improve information dissemination channels to sustain and achieve the country’s goals and objectives as outlined in the National Strategic Plan on HIV/Aids, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Tuberculosis (TB).

“The programme featured speakers from government institutions and advocacy organisations such as the Department of Health, Department of Education, Makhuduthamaga Umbrella NGO, THINK NGO and many others,” said Mashabela.

He highlighted that the observation was also attended by Head of Economic Development and Planning (EDP), Eric Makatishe Mosoane, Head of Budget and Treasury, Malebo Phala, Chairperson of EDP, Howard Piitjo and Mampane Royal Council members.
