MYF candidates empowered

MOGORWANE – Fifty-five Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality Youth Fund (MYF)’s candidates received a major boost when the municipality, together with the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) as well as the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) provided them a four-day Business Management Training course at Boeketlong Lodge in Mogorwane Village from Tuesday, 12 until Friday, 15 November.

Ninety-one applicants of the fund were found to be not having BMT training which is a requisite for qualification for funding. However, only 55 of the 91 nominees positively responded to the training.

Thomas Mashabela, MLM spokesperson, stated that the trainees received BMT certificates upon completion of the course, which they will file with their funding applications.

Mashabela indicated that the youth fund’s steering committee is expected to meet soon to review the updated MYF report. He added that NYDA will handle funding distribution.

Council Speaker Judy Nkgadima, Deputy Head for Infrastructure Development, Makanyoge Morwamakoti, Corporate Service Portfolio Chairperson, Dineo Moshabane joined Mayor Merah Mahlase during an interface with the trainees on their final day of the programme.

Makhuduthamaga Youth Fund received 125 applications through NYDA’s ERP website. 106 applications proceeded to the adjudication process after residential verification.

The municipality launched the R2 million MYF earlier this year after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with NYDA to solidify the partnership.

Funding will be awarded in the near future to businesses that meet all the requirements under threshold 1, which offers up to R10 000 and threshold 2 which funds up to R50 000.

Mashabela pointed out that should funds remain after the fund allocation for the first phase applicants in the 2024/2025 financial year, the municipality intends to open a second application window to give more young people a chance to develop and revitalise their businesses.
