WhatsUP Wednesday Activation kicks-off Yellow Arum Lily Festival countdown

In a display of proactive leadership and community engagement, Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA), CEO, Moses Ngobeni, spearheaded a special ‘WhatsUP Wednesday Activation’ on Wednesday 6 November 2024 in Roosenekal, Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality (EMLM).
The initiative is aimed at mobilizing local enthusiasm for the upcoming Yellow Arum Lily Festival which is scheduled to take place on Saturday 30 November 2024.
The WhatsUP Wednesday Activation programme in Roosenekal marked an energetic day of interactions, spanning schools, cultural heritage sites and a pivotal preparatory meeting in the Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM).
The day commenced at Mohlarekoma Secondary School in Roossenekal, where Ngobeni, together with school Principal Mr. Mogashoa, addressed educators and learners where they emphasized the importance of embedding tourism in educational frameworks.
“Tourism is more than travel, it is about enriching local pride and participation,” Ngobeni stated. Mohlarekoma educators echoed Ngobeni’s sentiments, sharing strategies to enhance student involvement and underscore the significance of domestic tourism through events like the Yellow Arum Lily Festival. Principal Mogashoa expressed gratitude for LTA’s visit at the school.
During the activation, Ngobeni proceeded to Sisabonga Primary School, where Principal Mrs Phoshoko and Mr Sathekge, who is known for his commitment to previous festival initiatives, extended a warm reception to the agency.
The school pledged to actively participate in the 2024 festival by presenting cultural performances, reinforcing the festival’s role as a platform for showcasing local heritage.
“Our learners are excited to be part of this celebration that connects them with their roots,” said Principal Phoshoko.
Ngobeni furthered paid a visit to the Ndzundza Mabhoko Traditional Authority at the historic eRholweni Heritage Site in Roosenekal.
The heritage site is marked as a place of reverence for the AmaNdebele Ndzundza nation and a tribute to their leaders, including King Nyabela, underscored the deep cultural ties woven into the festival’s narrative.
Paying homage to the traditional authority, Ngobeni reaffirmed LTA’s respect for local customs and heritage. Concluding his tour, Ngobeni presided over a strategic multilateral preparatory meeting of Yellow Arum Lily Festival at the Roossenekal Library.
Attendees included representatives from four Sekhukhune local municipalities, the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), Sekhukhune Development Agency (SDA) and the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment, and Tourism (LEDET). The session focused on assessing festival logistics and cross-sector collaboration.
