Limpopo Premier, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, said the province will consider investing in tourism infrastructure, fostering community-led tourism enterprises and promoting eco-tourism to make Limpopo a premiere tourism destination.

Ramathuba said during Limpopo Investment Conference held at The Ranch Hotel in Polokwane from Thursday 7 November to Friday 8 November 2024, which brought together key stakeholders from both the private and public sectors to explore and promote investment opportunities in Limpopo.

“Limpopo is blessed with unique natural and cultural attractions. We aim to leverage these assets to boost economic growth. Limpopo is also blessed with breath-taking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and wildlife treasures that are the lifeblood of our tourism sector,” she said.

Ramathuba said the provincial government has envision a tourism industry that not only draws global visitors but also uplifts local communities through job creation and sustainable economic empowerment.

“We aim for tourism that strengthens our economy while preserving our environment, celebrating our heritage, and inspiring pride in every citizen. Together, we can position Limpopo as Africa’s must-see jewel, bridging our natural beauty with the promise of economic prosperity for all,” she said.

Furthermore, the premier has welcomed the R120, 329 billion in investment pledge committed by various investors in Limpopo Province.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the business sector and industry leaders who have partnered with us to uplift our province. These pledges are an important step in transforming Limpopo’s economic landscape and we are confident that this partnership will bring substantial benefits to the people of Limpopo who need access to enhanced services and opportunities,” said Ramathuba.

The pledged investments are aimed at fuelling priority areas for Limpopo’s development, including green energy initiatives, critical infrastructure projects, and catalytic ventures that will stimulate industrial growth and support the establishment of industrial parks.

“These projects are expected to create numerous jobs, ranging from short-term positions to full-time employment opportunities, significantly impacting local communities. Implementation of projects funded by these pledges will commence from November 2024 and continue through to October 2025,” informed Ramathuba.

She commended the commitment from the business sector, stating that it shows the strong support for the province’s 7th administration and its focus on sustainable development and economic resilience.
