Marula Community Chrome offers critical support to Four Farms matriculants
Over 360 matric learners from six secondary schools across the Four Farms are attending critical matric camps funded by Marula Community Chrome (MCC).
These final-year learners from the Makgamathu, Mohlalamorudi, Makopi, Mokwadibe, Mosedi and Dihlabakela Secondary Schools are receiving an added boost to ensure they do well as they prepare and sit for their matric examinations and to improve their chances of being accepted into higher education institutions.
The matric camps provide a safe, boarding school type (live-in) environment, which is conducive for focused learning, avoiding any social issues which could distract learners at this important time. During the camp, learners receive extra lessons which help reinforce their understanding of the key subjects. They also have opportunities to study in groups, allowing them to collaborate and support one another. Moreover, the camps offer personalised attention to meet each learner’s specific needs, ensuring that everyone gets the help they require.
In addition, sponsorship from MCC also covers the cost of food, toiletries and stationery for learners, stipends for tutors, teachers and other staff, such as cleaners and security.
Mr MI Lekgeu, Principal of Mosedi Secondary School, explains: “The main aim is to improve the overall performance and the quality of learner achievements.”
This is the second year that the matric camps have been arranged for local matriculants, based on the success of the 2023 year. Mr TM Manaka, Principal at Makgamathu Secondary Schools, shared that the 2023 camp led to his school becoming the best in the Driekop Circuit. He says proudly, “we managed to produce a 94,8% matric pass rate and we want to go beyond what we achieved in 2023”.
This support demonstrates the importance of the involvement of local businesses in local community development. Community-owned Marula Community Chrome is a shareholder in Makgomo Community Chrome and is mandated to identify and implement projects that seek to uplift the six local communities.
Oupa Kgoete of MCC says, “This contribution by MCC reflects a commitment to enhancing educational outcomes for these learners, giving them the tools and resources necessary to succeed. By focusing on their preparation and providing a supportive environment, MCC hopes to positively impact their academic performance. Ultimately, the aim is to help them excel in their studies and achieve their goals, paving the way for further educational opportunities and successful careers.”
