Burned body of man discovered, police search for suspects
MALOMANYE – The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Apel have launched a manhunt for suspects after the gruesome discovery of a burnt body of an unknown man on Friday, 18 October afternoon in Malomanye Village.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, said police were summoned to the scene together with Emergency Medical Services personnel and upon arrival, they found a male body with burn wounds on the street.
Ledwaba stated that the victim, who is currently unknown, was certified dead on the scene. “Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was attacked by a section of community members who allegedly accused him of committing electricity cable theft in the area. A case of murder has been opened for further police investigations,” explained Ledwaba.
The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the incident and advised community members to report criminal activities to the police without acting unlawfully.
General Hadebe said, “Taking the law into your own hands is an act of criminality and therefore, punishable by aw,” indicated Hadebe.
