Heavy rains destroy properties in and around Mecklenburg
MOROKE
The much-needed rainfall has come at some costs in some parts of Tubatse. Heavy storms destroyed the roofs of shacks, and windows in villages surrounding the Mecklenburg area on October 22.
Residents from Moroke, Ga- Mashishi, Ga Kgwete and neighbouring communities were dealt a major blow as few of their houses, and shacks had their window glasses and roofing damaged.
On Wednesday October 23, Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality’s disaster team as well as some local Good Samaritans visited the families to lend a helping.
Meanwhile South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned that the heavy rains were expected to continue during the course of the week in provinces such as Limpopo, Gauteng, and Mpumalanga.
“Thunderstorms are expected to develop over Gauteng, the Highveld of Mpumalanga and the western Bushveld of Limpopo resulting in heavy downpours (widely 15-25mm with isolated areas receiving up to 30mm and strong to damaging winds.
“These conditions may lead to minor impacts. These include localised damage to informal houses or structures, disruption of services due to power surges and localized flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges.
“Given these potential impacts, it is essential to stay informed and monitor weather warnings from the South African Weather Service throughout this period to ensure preparedness and safety.“The South African Weather Service will continue to monitor any further developments relating to this weather system and will issue subsequent updates as required,” SAWS said.
