Limpopo and India foster business and tourism ties

MEC for Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET), Tshitereke Matibe, has on behalf of Office of the Premier hosted the Consulate General of India-Johannesburg, Mahesh Kumar and his delegation to foster a business partnership, aimed at promoting tourism and developing the economy of the province.
The visit by the consulate took place on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 October under the theme: “Doing Business with India”.
During the programme, the Indian delegation has interacted with local business from Sekhukhune and Capricorn Districts and catalytic projects, including the Fetakgomo-Tubatse Special Economic Zone-FTSEZ and the Gateway Airport Limpopo.
Bilateral and trade relations between Limpopo and India have existed since the 1300’s, evident in the discovery of supporting artefacts at the Mapungubwe Nature Reserve.
Since then, interactions have seen Indian provinces and Limpopo benefiting. The visit continued on the parties to explore current and potential opportunities for mutual growth and economic development through trade agreements.
Ultimately, MEC Matibe said the goal is central, and that remains using every opportunity to “create jobs for Limpopo residents and entrepreneurial opportunities for our business minded citizens”.
Meanwhile, in a separate event, MEC Matibe and MEC for Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Limpopo, Jerry Maseko, met with the ambassador of the Netherlands to South Africa, Joanne Doornewaard, who is on a business visit to Limpopo for a few days.
During the interaction, Doornewaard said her country has a long standing and strategic relationship with South Africa and Limpopo in agriculture, biodiversity, human rights and climate adaptation.
She committed that Netherlands has over R147 million that they will invest in Tzaneen pack house for agriculture purpose.
This investment will be beneficial in the agricultural sector and also go a long way towards the creation of the much needed jobs.
During the opening of Limpopo Legislature, Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba has made a commitment in to prioritise the creation of jobs, promote tourism and improve service delivery across all government sectors.
