Over 690 offenders nabbed during weekly high-density operations
LIMPOPO – A total of 696 suspects were nabbed during the joint weekly high-density operations conducted across the five districts of Limpopo province from Monday, 30 September until Sunday, 06 October.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, revealed that police actions and activities carried out throughout the operations included tracing of wanted suspects, roadblocks, stop and searches, vehicle and premises searches, compliance inspections and high visibility patrols.
Ledwaba stated that significant arrests were effected, consisting of 12 for murder, 108 for assault GBH, 64 for assault common, 18 for rape, six for burglary business, nine burglary residential, 20 for malicious damage to property, 10 for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, six for possession of firearms, seven for dealing in drugs and 189 for other crimes.
He indicated that compliance inspections were conducted at second-hand dealers and liquor premises as well as formal and informal businesses and scrap yards, whereby 23 unlicensed liquor premises were closed.
“Police confiscated 148L of alcoholic beverages, 6.4kg of dagga, 0.03g of crystal meth, 0.8g of nyaope, two counterfeit goods, six firearms, 86 ammunitions, five dangerous weapons, three vehicles, 22 652 packets of tobacco and cash to the value of R28 364, informed Ledwaba.
He pointed out that he suspects were expected to appear before different Magistrate’s courts. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of South African Police Service in Limpopo, Major General Samuel Manala, has expressed his gratitude to the members and stakeholders for their collective efforts and actions executed during the period of the operations.
Major General Manala also appreciated the community for sharing valuable information with the police.
