MEC Rachoene praises Makhuduthamaga’s ‘Dikgerekgere Tuesday’ successes

Polokwane

The Mayor of Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM), Cllr Masekwele Merah Mahlase, has received praises for her dedication to providing residents with sustainable road infrastructure through the Dikgerekgere Tuesday Programme.

Mahlase was hailed during the first stakeholder engagement meeting, which was convened by the MEC for Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads, and Infrastructure (LDPWRI), Ernest Sebataolo Rachoene, set to engage with mayors from Sekhukhune District on prospects of improving road infrastructure provision in each municipality.

The high-level meeting was held at the headquarters of LDPWRI in Polokwane on Tuesday 8 October 2024.

Makhuduthamaga is the first municipality in Limpopo to embrace the District Development Model through Dikgerekgere initiative.

The meeting was the first collective of mayors and stakeholder engagement platform convened by MEC Rachoene since taking over the department.

During the engagement, Mayor Mahlase presented the MEC and Road Agency Limpopo (RAL) senior officials with a list of D-roads and low-level bridges that require department intervention, including those that the municipality has completed designs.

Among the projects the mayor presented include the D4242 Mokwete Molepane Phase 2 Project, D4282 Glen Cowie Setebong to Dikaton Project, the D4225 Topanama Madibong to Manganeng Road Project, D4246 Mortogate Wonderboom to R579 Road Project, the D4263 Phaahla Upgrade, Mamatjekele to Masehlaneng Road Project and the D4256 Molebeledi, Mamatjekele to Masemola Mošate Road Project.

MEC Rachoene was impressed with the developments and has praised the local municipality for its dedication to providing its residents with sustainable road infrastructure and further committed his department will continue supporting the municipality’s Integrated Development Plan (IDP) through the Dikgerekgere Tuesday Programme.

The MEC also applauded the municipality’s leadership for aligning its road maintenance programs and coordinating planning seamlessly with the provincial government, stating: “Makhuduthamaga is the first municipality in Limpopo to embrace the District Development Model through the Dikgerekgere Initiative.”

Mayor Mahlase introduced the Dikgerekgere Service Delivery Programme last month in Phokwane Cluster, aimed at minimising infrastructure and service delivery backlogs and improving mobility on municipal roads.

The Acting Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM), Cllr Makaeya Alfred Matlala, also provided areas in need of intervention throughout the district and thanked the MEC for implementing programmes aimed at improving the province’s infrastructure and launching the stakeholder engagement platform.

Furthermore, the MEC admired Mayor Mahlase for honouring the meeting with a complete support team led by the Senior Manager for Infrastructure Development (ID), Nosipho Lubisi.
