To encourage pupils to perform well in their academics, Leeuwfontein Pickers has donated 20 stationery vouchers to the top 5 performing learners per grade at Motheong Primary School in Leeuwfontein Township outside Marble Hall.
The gesture was delivered on Tuesday 1 October at the school premises by Leeuwfontein Pickers directors, Kabelo Steven Tjale and Mr Lawrence Mohlala, where each of the learners who did well in the second term were each awarded a R150-00 stationery voucher.
Leeuwfontein Pickers was established in 2023 with the aim of forming an alliance with farmers around Marble Hall and Groblersdal to create easy access to employment for youth around Moganyaka and neighbouring communities.
The company started with their duties in May this year and managed to employ 290 pickers and 14 supervisors during picking season.
Leeuwfontien Pickers Managing Director, Kabelo Tjale, said they established the company to create a source of income that benefit unemployed youth in their area.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Hendrick Schoeman and Schoeman Boerdery for giving us the platform to reduce unemployment among our youth. We wish farmers around Marble Hall and Groblersdal could follow suit on Schoeman Boerdery and give opportunities to our local youth instead of hiring illegal foreigners. We are happy that Schoeman Boerdery doesn’t employ foreign nationals on all their farms around South Africa and we appreciate their efforts in dealing with unemployment,” he said.
Motheong Primary School Principal, Thabo Happy Maburuse, has appreciated the donation saying it is the most generous gift to have happened at their school.
“I have been at this school for the past 33 years and this is the most generous thing to can happen since I arrived here. This is a great inspiration to our pupils, it came as a surprise especially on their first day of the last term of the school’s calendar. We truly appreciate the donation and we hope other businesses could learn from them and give the learners an inspiration. We would like to thank Schoeman for his contribution to our community and schools,” said Maburuse.
Leeuwofontein Pickers Operational Director, Lawrence Mohlala, has encouraged other businesses around Moganyaka to come on board to uplift the community that supports them.
“I believe as local businesses, it is important to support our communities, we are the change our respective communities need. You can’t expect change without taking action towards your community. The little contribution you make could inspire the whole community,” said Mohlala.
