The Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) and the Limpopo Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET), have collaborated to promote and implement the ‘Tourism Thursday’ Campaign, which was announced by the Limpopo Premier, Dr Phophi Ramathuba and MEC for LEDET, Tshitereke Matibe.
The two entities collaborated on Thursday 12 September 2024, to fuse SANParks Open Week and Limpopo Wildlife Mahala Week into Tourism Thursday programme, where the citizens of Limpopo are encouraged to celebrate tourism every week even beyond September, which was earmarked as Tourism Month.
According to LTA, the Tourism Thursday initiative is continuous and is billed to go beyond the calendar year.
Three national parks in the province were promoted with activations that included the Kruger National Park at the Phalaborwa Gate, which was blessed with the visit by MEC Matibe, LTA board member, Modile Boshielo and LTA CEO Moses Ngobeni, as well as twelve media contingent.
The activation at Mapungubwe National Park was leaded by LTA Vhembe Regional Officer, Itani Mamafha and three media personalities, while the Marakele National Park Tourism Thursday campaign was leaded by LEDET Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations personalities with three media representatives in presence.
During the activation, the delegation at Mapungubwe visited the Musina Baobab Nature Reserve, while Marakele delegation also paid homage to the beautifully renovated D’Nyala Nature Reserve in Lephalale.
This expedition was a success and the media had amazing content to share with the public about the work that the government is doing.
Meanwhile, as part of Tourism Month celebrations, LEDET, together with the Limpopo Wildlife Resorts, in partnership with Employee Relations and Wellness directorate, have embarked in promoting employee wellness of LEDET staff through hiking and exploring the wilderness of beautiful state owned nature reserve, Wolkberg.
The Wolkberg is a 22 000 hactre reserve admired by international and local hikers, climbers, walkers and wanderers, who visit the tourism site to witness its variety of trails and diverse habitat.
Exploring the nature reserve, hikers will be able to have a vision of marked trails, however, one can walk anywhere they want, exploring dramatic gorges and cliffs, thickly forested ravines and wide-open grasslands.
Wolkberg Nature Reserve is one of the reserves visited by tourists during its Mahala Week programme that took place from 9 to 15 September 2024.
When hiking on the mountainous Wolkberg Nature Reserve, visitors have an opportunity to see smaller antelope such as klipspringer, grey rhebok, duiker, bushbuck and mountain reedbuck, as well as monkeys and baboons.
