Leewfontein Shopping Complex project takes off the ground
LEEUWFONTEIN – The construction of the Leeuwfontein Shopping Complex is well underway following the sod-turning ceremony on the site on 20 August to mark commencement of work.
McCormick Property Development, with extensive record of retail development of over 75 shopping centres, committed to begin construction work on the project in the next two weeks.
Kgoshi Mokgoma Kotole Rahlagane of the Rahlagane Traditional Authority encouraged communities to seize the opportunity as needed for economic development.
The project, stretching 10 000 square meters as phase 1, is worth R200m and has already started with earthworks.
McCormick indicated that they are planning to use as many yellow machines as possible in order to empower local contractors.
The shopping complex is envisaged to comprise of Shoprite as an anchor, Build it, Shoprite Liquor, Capitec Bank, Standard Bank, Steers, Fishaways, KFC and FNB, fashion shops such as Mr Price, PEP, Akermans et cetera.
It will also have cellphone shops, pharmacy, salon, doctors’ general practice and a filling station. Between 700 and 800 employment opportunities are expected to be created during construction of the project and 400-500 full-time jobs.
Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality Mayor, Given Moimana, reiterated the protection of the project and its assets and further challenged McCormick to train the youth so that when the construction ends, young people remain with skills.
