Limpopo and Northern Cape youth empowered through art
Mohlake
Ausiki Podi, an esteemed arts lecturer at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in Pretoria, has brought a wealth of expertise and passion to the Sekhukhuneland Bushmen Friendship Market at the Leolo Mountains in Mohlake Village.
Born and bred in Motetema Township outside Groblersdal, as a graphic designer and fine artist, Podi’s goal was not only to motivate the youth towards employment and enterprise opportunities, but also to instil confidence in their artistic abilities.
Throughout the skills transfer sessions, Podi inspired the youth to produce high-quality artworks on canvas, emphasizing the importance of being market-ready and boosting their confidence as artists.
Her approach was not just about teaching techniques but also about fostering a mindset of excellence and professionalism.
Podi’s dedication to excellence was evident in her own work, as she produced a stunning canvas portrait dedicated to Xuu Katrina Esau, the Queen of the ancient Bushmen Language. This gesture not only showcased her artistic talent but also honoured, Xuu Katrina Esau who is regarded as the living human treasure of South Africa, highlighting the significance of preserving cultural heritage.
Podi’s involvement in the Sekhukhuneland Bushmen Friendship Market went beyond mere skills transfer as she played a pivotal role in inspiring the youth to embrace their artistic talents, fostering a sense of pride in their work and paving the way for future success in the arts industry.
As we reflect on the impact of the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme (PESP3), Ausiki Podi’s contribution stands out as a testament to the transformative power of art.
Through her guidance and dedication, she empowered the youth to unleash their creative potential and strive for excellence in all their endeavours. Her commitment to quality and her passion for the arts have left a lasting impression on all those who had the privilege of learning from her.
