Proud Montjane handed a heroic welcome by Limpopo government

LIMPOPO

Limpopo Department of Sports, Arts and Culture at Olympic Towers in Polokwane was a hive of activities on July 17. The MEC Funani Maseko was joined by scores of supporters in welcoming Wimbledon wheelchair doubles champion, Kgothatso Montjane.
Montjane and her Japanese partner Yui Kamiji bagged their third Grand Slam title together on July 14.
The number one seeds defeated Dutch duo, Diede De Groot and Jiske Griffioen 6-4, 6-4, to secure the Wimbledon Ladies’ Wheelchair Doubles title in London, United Kingdom.
Maseko described Montjane as an exemplary figure in society.
“We are honoured to be celebrating this star. Local kids need to look up to her. She is a perfect role model”
According to the newly crowned champion, the matches are grueling and require professionalism to play at this level.
“We try to fight as a team. We wanted to win this one considering our performance last year. After that match last year, we felt we needed to give it our best. We felt we lacked strategy. So, you can imagine how badly we wanted it.”
