Pupils and educators donates to the needy family
LEBOENG
The educators, pupils and board of directors at St Thomas College donated food parcels to a needy family at Leboeng on July 24.The Lesele family will at times go to bed without meals. They rely on money from the mother who sells home-made brooms and receives a social grant for one child. Some of the family members have no birth certificates either.
As part of its Mandela Month celebrations, St Thomas donated groceries to the family. Among the items handed to the family were two 50kg bags of maize meal, bags of rice, tinned fish, washing powder, sanitary towels and many more basic items, such as blankets.
The principal of the college, Manoj Mathew, said his learners and the staff had donated the items voluntarily.
“With the school doing well academically, I thought it was the perfect time for us to assist the needy and vulnerable people in the villages. We have seen their challenges and hardships and we chose to help with the little we have. l
“We are not doing this for public exposure. I believe it is our social responsibility to help those in need once in a while,” Mathew said.
“Our aim is to bring joy to the lives of the needy and we achieved that,” he added.
A community member, Penuel Mmopane, thanked St Thomas for the donations. “The food parcels will help this family. They have so many challenges and we plead with local businesses and the Limpopo government to assist them with shelter.”
