Executive Mayor Bahula inspects water projects
Ga-PHAAHLA/MAMPHOLO – In a move to tackle Sekhukhune district’s continued water challenges that negatively impact on residents on a daily basis, Executive Mayor Minah Bahula embarked on water projects’ oversight visits at Ga-Phaahla and Mampholo, Ga-Masemola villages on 17 July.
Executive Mayor Bahula rolled out the program in the two villages with the aim to address shortfalls and provide intervention measures.
Bahula further reiterated her call to residents to help government put a stop to illegal water connections’ practice which puts a strain on regular supply.
Responding to the ongoing scourge and other problems disrupting the regular supply to residents, Bahula visited key water sources and infrastructure in these two villages.
The visit further sought to the mitigate challenges affecting normal water distribution and propose immediate and long-term solutions.
She requested a detailed technical support report from the repairs and maintenance team as part of the inspection of the two water projects.
Lemson Moropjane, SDM spokesperson, said the report is expected to outline the current challenges and concerns while proposing effective mitigation strategies to ensure a reliable water supply for all residents.
“One of the critical stops during the oversight visit included the Mohlakeng water source at Ga Phaahla. Here, the executive mayor observed the aging and incapacitated infrastructure that urgently requires attention. The existing infrastructure has significantly impacted its ability to supply water efficiently to the community,” explained Moropjane.
Bahula emphasised that infrastructure renewal is vital to ensuring a sustainable and efficient water supply system for the future.
She urged the community to cooperate with the initiatives aimed at improving their water supply and committed to addressing the water challenges head-on, ensuring that the residents have access to a reliable and clean water supply. “This requires the collective effort and support of all stakeholders,” she added.
Moropjane indicated that the water project in Mampholo village in Ga Masemola is part of the ongoing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality and the Sekhukhune District Municipality.
Bahula entailed, “The Sekhukhune District Municipality remains dedicated to resolving the water supply issues and improving the quality of life for its residents through sustainable infrastructure development and maintenance.”
