EPMLM Mayor and Speaker honour Mandela’s Legacy
Regae/Moutse West
As part of Mandela Month, the Mayor of Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality (EPMLM), Cllr Given Moimana, has on Tuesday 23 July led the 67 minutes of community service work at Gobetse le Hunadi Creche in Regae Village, EPMLM Ward 14.
The mayor was joined by the Department of Correctional Services and his entourage during the painting and cleaning of the community creche.
During the initiative, Mayor Moimana donated paints, water storage tank, chairs, tables, soccer balls mattresses and educational toys.
The principal of Gobetse le Hunadi Creche, Mme Martina Ntlhane, was so jubilant and thanked the mayor for bringing such a beautiful activity in their institution. Ntlhane wholeheartedly welcomed the goodies saying that they will enable both learning and teaching at the facility.
Moimana said they wanted to commemorate the day with the crèche in a view that early childhood development is an important level to develop and prepare children to be ready for school.
“We are here today at Gobetse le Hunadi Creche to thank you educators on the work that you are doing to develop our children. We share this special day with you by remembering and commemorating 67 minutes of community service to help our communities and honour the legacy of the late Tata Nelson Mandela. Mandela loved kids so much and we continue with his legacy to help those who are less privileged. And we are inspired by his spirit of Ubuntu,” said Moimana.
Meanwhile the Speaker of EPMLM, Cllr Rebecca Lentsoane, has on Monday 22 July celebrated her birthday by honouring Mandela’s legacy through a donation of wheelchairs and school shoes to the needy.
Lentsoane donated a wheelchair and shared her birthday cake with the Mononyane Family at Mokgwaneng Village in Moutse West. She later donated school shoes to needy pupils at Ngwato a Nape Secondary School in Mohlotsi Village, EPMLM Ward 13.
The speaker was joined by Member of Provincial Legislature, Bella Kupa, representatives from Cooperative Governance Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs (Coghsta), councillors and Community Development Workers (CDWs).
“I am a philanthropist and being generous is part of my life. I took a decision that every year during my birthday I touch lives by giving people some goodies as a token of appreciation,” Lentsoane said.
She praised Mathibela Mphuti, a CDW District Coordinator who has approached her about the plight of the Mononyane family.
“He told me about their situation in the family. Their situation touched me and I decided to intervene. Mr Mononyane did not have a wheelchair to move from one point to the other. So I decided to buy him a wheelchair to make his life easy,” said the speaker.
The Mononyane family expressed gratitude for the speaker’s noble gesture and encouraged her to
extend her helping hand to more needy people.
