Community joins Mayor Mahlase to create a tidy Makhuduthamaga
JANE FURSE – Over 200 community members from various wards of Makhuthamaga Local Municipality joined Mayor Merah Mahlase in a mass cleaning campaign in Jane Furse to mark Mandela Day on 18 July.
In addition to commemorating the International Nelson Mandela Day, the mass clean-up campaign aimed to create a safe and clean environment for a better society
Inspired by former state president Nelson Mandela’s 67 years of selfless service to the nation, Mayor Mahlase further announced plans to launch Dikgerekgere Tuesday service delivery programme for the municipality during the initiative.
Tabane Rankoe, Head of Community Services, Makanyoge Morwamakoti, Deputy Head of Infrastructure Services, Dineo Moshabane, Chairperson of Corporate Services, several councillors and ward committee members participated during the roll out of the program.
Mahlase implored members of the community and local organizations to remember and celebrate Madiba by doing something that will make a difference in their communities this Mandela Month of July, stating, “The goal is to transform the world for the better, just like Mandela did. Let us remain committed to his values, which include an uncompromising dedication to justice, equality, and a non-racial South Africa.”
She committed to plans to launch Dikgerekgere Tuesday service delivery program as inspired by the Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Ernest Rachoene, during this Mandela Month.
Mahlase said she intends to maximise the use of internal maintenance teams and machinery to improve mobility on gravel roads and the condition of local sports grounds throughout the municipality through
the program.
The mayor has already mandated the Infrastructure Department to develop a plan that will eventually cover all 31 wards of the sub-region.
