Councillor Phillip Msiza shot
WAALKRAAL – Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality Mayor, David Tladi has voiced concerns over the safety of councilors and strongly condemned the shooting of the municipality’s ward 4 councillor, Phillip Msiza and his sister-in-law.
Councillor Msiza and his sister-in-law were shot on Wednesday, 3 July at his residence in Waalkraal Village at about 19:10.
They both survived the attack, with Msiza being shot in the right thigh and her sister-in-law in the right pelvis. The two were rushed to hospital for medical treatment following the senseless shooting.
“The perpetrators of this serious crime must face the full might of the law. We will support all efforts to ensure they are brought to justice,” stated Mayor Tladi.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Dennilton have since launched a manhunt for the suspects. Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, said it is alleged that the victim was driving a white Ford Ranger Club Cab bakkie in Kgaphamadi Village with a friend when he passed a grey sedan motor vehicle that was parked in the middle of the road, about 200m away from his residence.
Ledwaba informed that the victim apparently parked his motor vehicle, went inside the house, took cash and proceeded to a nearby shop to purchase cigarettes and went back to the house.
He indicated that upon arrival at the house, the victim found the family members with two male strangers in the kitchen, armed with guns. “The victim allegedly managed to grab one of the assailants and used him as a shield to avoid being shot by the second one. The scuffle continued and the victim managed to run outside the house, while the attackers were firing shots in his direction. Afterwards, the duo vacated the house and fled the scene,” explained Ledwaba.
Anyone with information that can assist with the apprehension of the assailants should contact Investigating Officer, Sergeant Benjamin Ntuli on 082 303 997, the crime stop number 08600 10111, the nearest police station or use the MySAPSApp.
