Operation Kukula nets in 462 suspects
LIMPOPO – Four hundred and sixty-two suspects have been arrested for various crimes during the weekly Operation Kukula conducted in the all the five districts of the province between 17 and 23 June.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, said the operation involved coordinated efforts of several South African Police Service units, including the Tactical Response Team, the K9, Crime Intelligence units, Illegal Mining Task Team, Flying Squad and Detectives, supported by the South African National Defence Force, Traffic Police, Community Policing Forum, Youth Desk and private security.
Ledwaba pointed out that the arrested suspects face charges ranging from murder, attempted murder, rape, assault GBH, armed robbery and drug trafficking.
“In addition, 56 wanted suspects in connection with violent and serious crimes were traced and arrested as part of the intensified operations. Several counterfeit goods, illicit cigarettes and drugs, alcohol including stolen property and undisclosed amount of cash were confiscated. The successful apprehension of these suspects is expected to significantly reduce the levels of violent crimes in the affected areas. SAPS will continue to work closely with community leaders and residents to ensure ongoing safety and security,” indicated Ledwaba.
The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded the dedication and professionalism of the officers involved in the Operation Kukula. “We will continue to pursue criminals relentlessly and bring them to justice,” stated Hadebe.
