Victims of shack fire continue receiving help

ALVERTON

The Selahle family in Alverton is recovering after losing all their belongings in a shack fire back on May 23. In recent weeks, Good Samaritans visited the family to donate and to lend a helping hand.

On June 11, a law firm operating in Lydenburg and Mbombela handed several gifts that included a bed, stove, electric kettle, tables, chairs , blankets, clothes  and many more kitchen utensils and stationery. The family also received a R3000 Pep Stores voucher from Pieter Nel Attorneys.

“We asked our clients and friends for donations. Some of the people who assisted are Curro Nelspruit, with stationary, Andrew Strumpher with chairs, and employees, friends and family of Pieter Nel Attorneys with other items,” said the donors.
They added, “We were also driven by our company policy which encourages us to reach out to the community, especially the poor.”

Kedibone Selahle said  that she was struggling to make ends meet after losing everything in the blaze. She initially received some temporary relief from the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality that provided her with blankets.
Other Good Samaritans and local shops have been assisting this family.
A two-roomed house is currently being erected by locals while Kedibone and her kids stay in another shack built by neighbours and friends.
